The Kos Cruiser - the prelude
by c

In an abysmal attempt to appease my over stimulated vanity, I purchased a gold car.... Aztec gold. Before you ask me to fund part of the next election cycle, you should know that this happens to be the color of my Chrysler PT Cruiser.
I've discovered that this vehicle makes the perfect traveling billboard: the model is fairly rare, sticks out like the proverbial sore thumb, and shoe polish messages on the back window can be seen for miles.
I hosted my share of messages for the 2004 campaign (LINK below the fold). But I feel its time to start again and I'm looking to you, dear Kosovian, for help. I'm willing to shoe polish my window every Friday with your words of wisdom. Of course, I'll post up my efforts weekly and relay any tails of intrigue and vandalism.
*UPDATE* - Due to H. Wilma, the Kos Cruiser is temporarily in hiding, to return Friday 10/28

FLORIDA - my story from Gainesville

Not that the whole state trends this way but...
My daughter (11 going on a very cynical 38) and I visited the major intersections across town (Gainesville) to bring pizza and soda to the Kerry sign-waving crazies. We gave out 240 pieces of pizza and 7 gallons of soda. By our count...
147 extremely enthusiastic Kerry sign-wavers
14 very morbid Bush supporters
(Interesting note: most of the Bush people were female)
Unofficial Election Results
Includes Early Voting (tm) but not absentee
Kerry - 57%
Bush - 42%
Nader - 0.51%
Castor - 60%
Martinez - 39%
33,634 of 142,358 voters cast their ballots early or absenteed. There were lines at early voting every day.

Ok, so I'm a big weenie and it was only via email. Anyway...
It's been a bad day... Sinclair, Toledo Dem headquarters, and the Nevada republican disenfranchisement effort.
So I sent off my daily email to my political email list (wide cross-section) and the LTE desk at the local paper... ranting once again about voter disenfranchisement - specifically making an example of the Voters Outreach group.
Of course, the republicans on my email list promptly emailed me back with their patented excuse, "Oh well, the Democrats do that too."
To which I replied... (below the fold)

Remember last week when a local GOP office in Florida had
Swift Boat Vet flyers prominently displayed? Kos posted on it
here. The flyers were promoting a rally to be held this past weekend (
see my original post here).
Well, here are some PICTURES from the Swift Boat Vet Rally. Play "Where's Waldo" and try to find the SBV's.
Fireworks in Florida... This Saturday

Thu Aug 19, 2004 at 01:22:03 PM PDT
All Veterans for Kerry brought Del Sandusky, a Vietnam vet who
actually served directly with John Kerry in 1968, to Gainesville, Florida last Wednesday (8-18-04). Sandusky had high praise for Kerry saying, "He would never leave anyone behind."
Unfortunately, a small group of vocal anti-Kerry protesters also attended the meeting.
Sandusky recounted their days patrolling the waters of the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam War. Sandusky, who served as Kerry's crew chief on a swift boat, said Kerry deserved the war medals he won.
Other veterans have claimed that Kerry lied about combat conditions when he won his first Purple Heart.
But Sandusky said those veterans have created a "smear campaign."
"Some of them have stretched truths to the point that they're bald-face lies," Sandusky said. "None of those men served on the same boat Kerry was on - but I did." Gainesville Sun
Not to be outdone by the appearance of someone who actually served with Kerry in Vietnam, The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Vietnam Veterans Against Kerry and Veterans for Bush will hold a political rally Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. at the Downtown Community Plaza.

Apologies for posting more on this topic...
However, this is an email reply to a right-leaning coworker and I tend to masturbate my ego by posting my replies here at the Kollective.
McCain, "It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me"
by c
Thu Aug 05, 2004 at 07:59:31 AM PDT
John McCain comes to the
defense of John Kerry regarding the latest round of ads from "Swift Boat Veterans Who Never Served With John Kerry".
McCain says, "I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam."
Unfortunately, McCain refuses to believe the Whitehouse is behind this latest attack ad. "I can't believe the president would pull such a cheap stunt."
How soon McCain forgets the Carolina primaries...
Kerry, Freepers, & The Catsup Outsourcing Debacle

Sharing my freeper moments with the dKos collective...
A coworker recently forwarded me an email bemoaning that evil Senator Kerry and his hypocritical ways. Seems that JFK and THK are outsourcing those sought-after Catsup producing jobs overseas (debunked here and here). Unfortunately, the forwarded email I received also included a long list of other email addy's.
My response (to everyone, of course) and the original email is in the extended section below.

Hilarious...
Let`s go right now to Tom Brokaw and Tim Russert.
TOM BROKAW, NBC ANCHOR: All right, thanks very much, Chris Matthews.
We were listening earlier to the man, Tom Vilsack, who described himself as the great governor of the great state of Iowa.
We`re joined by Jon Stewart, who is the governor of the great state of disbelief.
JON STEWART, HOST, "THE DAILY SHOW": Yes. Nice to see you.
BROKAW: Good--thank you very much. But you don`t actually need that, because...
STEWART: I put it in too late. I wanted to hear...
BROKAW: I`m right here.
STEWART: Oh, I wanted to hear the crazy things Scarborough was saying.

A few more tidbits on Kevin Lyda's off-topic
post over in DhinMI's "
Senate Hearings Open Thread."
"Bill Nevins, a New Mexico high school teacher and personal friend, was fired last year and classes in poetry and the poetry club at Rio Rancho High School were permanently terminated. It had nothing to do with obscenity, but it had everything to do with extremist politics.
[...]
In March 2003, a teenage girl named Courtney presented one of her poems before an audience at Barnes & Noble bookstore in Albuquerque, then read the poem live on the school's closed-circuit television channel.
[...]
A school military liaison and the high school principal accused the girl of being "un-American" because she criticized the war in Iraq and the Bush administration's failure to give substance to its "No child left behind" education policy."
Please read the full article here and try to email the News-Journal some kudos for publishing Bill Hill's op-ed piece (letters, Op-ed editor).
More info can be found at GreenLeft.org.
Finally, I've included Courtney Butler's original poem, Revolution X, in the extended copy section.
