Anatomy of WH smears: Murtha today, Colin Powell tomorrow?
Fri Nov 18, 2005 at 06:50:05 PM PDT
THE MORONIC INFERNO: not only did Suzy come lately, Jean Schmidt, "essentially call John Murtha
"a coward"", the majority party in the House continues their shameful antics with this: "Republicans are
dredging up months-old ethics charges against Murtha".
But what will they do to this critic? Colin Powell Publicly Breaks With Bush. Donald Fowler Reports:
"History is often best served cold." That's how former Secretary of State Colin Powell answered PBS interviewer Charlie Rose's question about whether Powell would one day write a book on his service to George W. Bush. Secretary Powell's paraphrase of "revenge is a dish best served cold" foretold the other observations he would reveal for the first time regarding the Bush Administration's handling of the war in Iraq.
Well, will they bring out his questionable association with My Lai? I doubt it, he was then, after all, "the consummate team player". But what about now?
Bob Woodward further exposed: Tenet's "Slam Dunk" revisited.
Thu Nov 17, 2005 at 10:48:07 AM PDT
Swopa's blog characterizes it this way,
Tenet's "slam dunk" came in garbage time. Following from
praktike's blog, Swopa's timeline starts with this fact:
...the conversation happened in late December 2002.
What does this mean with respect to Booby's attempt to help the WH stage manage the CIA's culpability in deceiving dear leader?
JOHN DEAN: "...Reading Between the Lines of the Libby Indictment"
Fri Nov 04, 2005 at 06:09:47 PM PDT
Dean begins where we left off with him: John Dean on "Plamegate": Curb Your Enthusiasm. Firedoglake calls his latest piece a Barn Burner. Consider this for openers:
Indeed, when one studies the
indictment, and carefully reads the transcript of the press conference, it appears Libby's saga may be only Act Two in a three-act play. And in my view, the person who should be tossing and turning at night, in anticipation of the last act, is the Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney.
Now why might this be the case?

Waiting For The Valerie Plame Wilson Grand Jury: The Big Question Is Whether Dick Cheney Was a Target
All prosecutorial decisions are political. Not necessarily in the partisan sense, but rather, in the sense the prosecutor balances the seriousness of the conduct involved, with the purpose of the laws that might be violated, and his job is to act in the best interest of the United States government.
The leak of Valerie Plame Wilson's covert identity, if it was part of a plan to discredit her husband's report on his trip to Niger, is directly related to issues of "national security."....
But national security is a very gray area. Was the Bush/Cheney White House operating in the best interest of the country, or did they have a private agenda (oil fields in Iraq)? Did Cheney, Karl Rove, and Scooter Libby believe they had national security reasons to discredit Wilson's claims, and act accordingly? This is an area where there is no law, and it compounds the assessment of the actions of those involved.
Steve Gilliard and Whiskey Bar to our rescue.
"Senate Judiciary Committee successfully pressured GTECH": Miers Screwed? [Update]
Fri Oct 21, 2005 at 03:17:47 PM PDT
Could this bring us back to the "Rathergate Saga"? Nah.
According to TPM, this:
Earlier today, World Net Daily
reported what it called a big development in the Miers story. That development involved a guy named Larry Littwin, a fellow who's been under a gag order and prevented from talking about his role in a scandal that took place on Harriet Miers' watch at the Texas State Lottery Commission.
Marshall confirms...
The sourcing on the original story seem a little opaque to me. So I spoke to sources up on the Hill who confirmed that this is in fact true, that GTECH has agreed to allow Littwin to testify.
"Bush whacked Rove on CIA leak"? Could this be, or....
Wed Oct 19, 2005 at 06:31:06 AM PDT
Is this a "well placed" leak which signifies nothing?
THOMAS M. DeFRANK brings us this:
An angry President Bush rebuked chief political guru Karl Rove two years ago for his role in the Valerie Plame affair, sources told the Daily News.
"He made his displeasure known to Karl," a presidential counselor told The News. "He made his life miserable about this."
Well, you don't say. Miserable? But not to fret, according to this piece, the loyal, consistent, steady Bush once again "rose" to the level of his character.

Hey Mr. Bennett: "it isn't the crime stupid; it's the color."
Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 10:09:33 PM PDT
Let this also in someway "speak to" those among us who think that Mr. Bennett's recent controversial remarks "speak truth to power". I ask that you also consider this from The Black Commentator:
While Black and Latino crime, as a share of all crime is hardy different than in 1964, the share of persons incarcerated who are persons of color has risen from one-third to two-thirds in that period, while the share who are white has been cut in half.
What, you ask, might account for this disparity in this the land of equal opportunity for one and all?
The Prince of Darkness: "...seems blinded by the light".

Sidney Blumenthal gives us Novak as The Informer. He teases us with what we all know:
The tension of possibly being asked an impertinent question about Valerie Plame was unbearable for Robert Novak. Before it could be posed on CNN's Aug. 4 "Crossfire," Novak growled a vulgarism, threw off his microphone, and stalked off the set. Within an hour, a CNN spokesperson announced that the Washington columnist, who had been one of CNN's original marquee attractions, had engaged in "inexcusable and unacceptable" behavior and was suspended: "We've asked Mr. Novak to take some time off."
UR, please notice that Crossfire is in quotes: don't be distracted. Let's just move on to the "lyricism" of his conclusion.
Church and State: religious lefties 'meet-up' with progressives of all "denominations"
Thu Jul 28, 2005 at 07:08:01 AM PDT
It's Rabbi Michael Lerner "stirring up trouble again". In a nut shell:
Lerner wants to help forge a new alliance of "religious, secular and spiritual, but not religious, progressives." This alliance will someday expose and challenge the cancer of American consumerism. And it will oppose the religious Right's abuse of scripture to promote war, intolerance and ugly corporate agendas.
Yep, there is much to be skeptical about, yet...
Should Bolton look over his shoulder for the Inspector General?
Tue Jul 26, 2005 at 05:46:42 PM PDT
Of course there's the question as to whether Mr. Bolton was called to testify before the Plame Grand Jury then lie about it.... But what about this? "Another case", as Steve Clemons calls it. He begins with the Waxman letter regarding l'affaire "Niger/Uranium" (early March 2005).
Mr. Clemons provides the relevant excerpt from this letter:
Plame: In from the cold? Out in the Cold?
Tue Jul 19, 2005 at 08:55:06 PM PDT
There are those "in the know" who take serious issue with the GOP talking points on the issue of "Mrs. Wilson's" CIA status. Thanks to Josh Marshall, we find that 11 former intelligence officers presented a letter to the Republican and Democratic leadership in the House and the Senate addressing this outrage.
Their examples of how these talking points are being interpreted are priceless.
Bill Bradley: "A Party Inverted"; does his voice resonate?
Thu Mar 31, 2005 at 08:54:29 AM PDT
Ruy Teixeira, a Senior Fellow at The Century Foundation and the Center for American Progress, gives him "thumbs up" in this piece on his DonkeyRising Blog: Bill Bradley Deftly Analyses Where the Dems Go Wrong . Sayest he:
Former Senator Bill Bradley has an extremely important
op-ed page piece in Wednesday's New York Times - one of the genuine "must reads" of post-2004 election strategic thinking. In it, he contrasts the Republicans very stable pyramid-shaped organizational structure with the Dems "upside-down" organizational pyramid.
Bradley concludes that:
If Democrats are serious about preparing for the next election or the next election after that, some influential Democrats will have to resist entrusting their dreams to individual candidates and instead make a commitment to build a stable pyramid from the base up. It will take at least a decade's commitment, and it won't come cheap. But there really is no other choice.
Worthy of a read but sound?
Wolfowitz: "His womanising has come home to roost"?
Fri Mar 25, 2005 at 05:38:09 AM PDT
No way, yes? Let's see.
James P. Rubin Notwithstanding, Daily Mail asks "Will a British divorcee cost 'Wolfie' his job?"
The appointment of George Bush's leading hawk as head of the World Bank was heading for a crisis over his relationship with a senior British employee.
Influential members of staff at the international organisation have complained to its board that Paul Wolfowitz, a married father of three, is so besotted with Oxford-educated Shaha Riza he cannot be impartial.
Extraordinarily, they claim she played a key role in pushing the 61-year-old Pentagon official into the Iraq War. And the row comes amid claims that Wolfowitz's wife Clare once warned George Bush of the threat to national security any infidelity by her husband could cause.
Downing Street is said to be furious, but a bit of background:
Combat Stress Busters: From Ecstasy to Rap
Sun Feb 20, 2005 at 08:41:06 AM PDT
From The Guardian:
American soldiers traumatised by fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan are to be offered the drug ecstasy to help free them of flashbacks and recurring nightmares.
...
Scientists behind the trial in South Carolina think the feelings of emotional closeness reported by those taking the drug could help the soldiers talk about their experiences to therapists. Several victims of rape and sexual abuse with post-traumatic stress disorder, for whom existing treatments are ineffective, have been given MDMA since the research began last year....
"People are able to connect more deeply on an emotional level with the fact they are safe now."
But then along come the "Baghdad Rappers" shouting to the "Therapists of the World".
Raw Story on the missing link: Bruce Eberle?
Sat Feb 19, 2005 at 05:11:57 PM PDT
"Did Bruce Eberle get Gannon top White House Access?"
Hmmmmmmmmmm, followiwng the money: Partner of GOPUSA founder has checkered past as Republican moneyman
RAW STORY has found a solid connection between the founder of Talon News and GOPUSA and a well-connected relative and business partner whose links to Bush advisors, dubious fundraising and marketing activities and paid commentators abound.
Bruce W. Eberle-a relative of Bobby Eberle, the founder of GOPUSA and Talon News-may be the missing link.
Bobby is not the money man but compelling background information on Bruce in this regard follows.
Gannon knew before you: "Shock and Awe"
Fri Feb 18, 2005 at 07:39:12 AM PDT
BREAKING NEWS: Gannon reportedly knew about "Shock and Awe" four hours before it happened
According to John in DC - AmericaBlog:
A news producer for a major network just told me that Gannon told the producer the "shock and awe" campaign launching the Iraq war was about to happen
four hours before President Bush announced it to the nation.
According to the producer, Gannon specifically told them that in four hours the president was going to be making a speech to the nation announcing the "shock and awe" campaign had begun. The producer told me they were surprised that Gannon, working with such a small news outfit, could have access to such information, but "what did you know, he was right," the producer said today. The producer went on to say that Gannon often had correct scoops on major stories, including information about Mary Mapes and the Dan Rather BUSH/AWOL scandal that this news outlet got from Gannon before any had the information publicly.
I have nothing to add but AmericaBlog poses some questions:
